Lazio is located in central Italy, on the western coast. This region borders Tuscany to the northwest, Umbria and Marche to the north, Abruzzo to the east, Campania to the southeast and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west.

The region of Lazio is home to Italy's capital city, Rome and is one of the most visited regions of Italy for tourists and religious pilgrims to the Vatican. Other popular destinations are Tivoli and Frascati. Lazio is steeped in a rich cultural, architectural and spiritual heritage but is also renowned for its natural wilderness and wide variety of landscapes and scenery that extends over volcanic lakes of Albano and Nemi, hills, beaches and reefs and the Appenine Mountains. 
The National Park of Gran Sasso and Laga Mountains are located near Rieti offering tourists walks in the wilderness with views of rare beauty and vast panorama. This park includes the highest summit of the Apennine Mountains (2915 meters).
Local Cuisine
Mainly based on products from the land, Lazio cuisine is among the most renowned in Italy. The fundamental foods are olive oil, cheese and wine. This area is also renowned for its Vegetables, especially Artichokes and pulses. Classic pasta dishes found here include Amatriciana, Carbonara and gnocchi whilst Egg pasta Fettuccine and Pappardelle are mixed with a variety of sauces. Lamb and pork is popular as is the perch, whitefish and eel, caught from Lake Bolsena. Cheeses produced from sheep’s milk in this area include Pecorino, Caciotta and Ricotta. The most popular wines of the region are Frascati, Marino and Colli Albani.
