Limburg Province

Limburg is the easternmost province of Flanders and is located west of the Maas River. It covers an area of 930 sq mi (2,409 sq km).  It borders on the Dutch provinces of North Brabant and the Belgian provinces of Liege, Flemish Brabant and Antwerp. Its capital is Hasselt and other major cities are Tongeren and Sint-Truiden.

Geography

Belgian Limburg is crossed by the Albert Canal and has historically been a major coal-mining area. North of the Albert Canal and the river Demer, is the Campine region, with sandy soils, bush, forests and the coal-mining area. South of the Albert Canal and the river Demer, is the Hesbaye region which is largely agricultural producing dairy products, fruit, grains, and sugar beets as well as market garden produce.
